The Place of
Prayer in Chaplaincy Practice and Service Delivery
In providing spiritual care services to people, clients
and relatives who are in need of such in professional chaplaincy practice and
service delivery, prayers are essential and unavoidable.
No wonder, chaplains are expected to be ordained
clergies of the various religions and multi-faith clergies who have the
responsibility of ministering to people of all religions as well as people of
no religions in prayers.
However, for this task to be performed satisfactorily
by practicing professional chaplains, they need to come to the grips with what
prayers is and how to administer it in chaplaincy practice.
Prayers in its simplest term means addressing Almighty
God or deity, invocating the powers and spirit of God; entreating the Almighty
God, asking God or deity for something much desired or favour one is looking
unto God for.
Chaplains are expected to lead the clients to a
purposeful, meaningful and beneficial prayers, devotions and to make them
invoke the power of God in any given situation.
The technicality of praying or offering prayers
rightly can be learned, for praying wrongly will automatically make one not to
receive any answer to requests.
Embrace prayer and praying indeed.
