Preamble:
The mandate for all practicing professionals in
chaplaincy is to benefit humanity in all life’s endeavours and all sector of
the economy. In this open lecture, I will concern myself with detailing and
show-casing of benefits chaplaincy can bring to people of our world.
1.
Chaplaincy is
known and accepted to be people-oriented profession and service; all
professionals in chaplaincy practice and service delivery are mandated
professionally to always think or seek those things that are beneficial to the
people of our world.
In the practice of chaplaincy profession, they are
expected to give consideration to what will bring improvement to the lives of
people and also concern themselves with whatever will make life more meaningful
for the people of our world.
2.
Chaplaincy is known
and accepted to be a humanizing profession and services delivery. All
professionals making chaplaincy as their choice profession are expected to be
humane in their dealing with all people irrespective of gender, social status,
religion, tribe, nationality or sexual orientation.
In their professional practice, they are expected to
treat or handle issues on their own merits, seeking to improve the lives of
their numerous clients always.
Stagnation is unprofitable and unbeneficial;
therefore, all practicing professionals in chaplaincy practice and service
delivery must learn to be dynamic and pragmatic at all times.
3.
Chaplaincy
profession is known and accepted to be multi-dimensional, multi-directional,
multi-faceted and multi-faith profession and practice; all practicing
professionals in chaplaincy must endeavor to bring benefitial services to all
people provided they are human.
4.
Chaplaincy is
known and accepted to be service-oriented profession, practice and service
delivery; all practicing professionals are expected to provide or offer only
beneficial services to people wherever they find themselves serving.
NB: We are all called to render beneficial services to
humanity as professional chaplains. Some of the benefits chaplaincy can give
humanity globally are:
1.
Bringing peaceful
co-existence to the people of our world through conflict resolution and
management, crisis management, conciliation services and arbitration.
2.
Pastoral care and
spiritual care services to numerous people who require such care.
3.
Fostering
resilience to those who have been traumatized, battered and violated in life;
helping to restore then to normalcy, is a rewarding and beneficial service to
humanity.
4.
Reducing the
sufferings of people or helping to alleviate such sufferings is a profitable
and beneficial service to humanity.
5.
Providing the
needed solutions to numerous social problems, mental health problems is a
profitable and beneficial service.
6.
Helping to
provide the needed solutions to relationship problems and issues; bringing
about interpersonal relationship between people.
7.
Helping to stem
suicidal thoughts and actions by intentionally making an intervention in
people’s lives, especially people who have become depressed, and feel
hopelessly hopeless. Taking the best option for them is not to end their
God-given lives
