Overcoming
Obstacles in Life as Professionals
There are many known and unknown obstacles in life.
People all over the world who are wise make such obstacles stepping stones to
greatness; but the foolish take such obstacles or hindrance to be the end of
life. Professionally too, there are many hindrances and obstacles professional
practioners must overcome.
Beloved, there are numerous obstacles in life and this
is simply the reason why the fittest survive in the life “Survival of the
fittest.” For example;
1.
The first set of
Doctors that came back to Nigeria after their training in Russia, were refused
employments by Nigerian government those days, saying that education in Russia
was substandard to that of Britain.
These professional doctors immediately went into
action to establish their own private hospitals; one of such hospitals is
“Ireti Hospital,” at Herbert Macaulay way Ebute-Meta.
Today we have many private specialist hospitals all
over our nation Nigeria providing services to people of this nation without
depending on governments for funding of whatsoever.
2.
We have so many
practicing professional lawyers today in this nation who are not employed by
government, but have established various Law Farms; engaging in private
practice.
Many of them today have become consultants to various
government instead of crying for government employments.
3.
There are many
accountants in Nigeria today, who are certified and chartered accountants and
are not in the employment of government; yet they have established their own
private firms of accountants offering accounting services to the public and
government.
4.
There are
numerous engineers today in our nation who have not been able to secure
government jobs; yet many of them have established engineering firms and
contracting firms, providing engineering services to the public as well as the
government.
5.
There are many
graduates of education in our nation Nigeria who have no placements as teachers
in any public schools; yet many of them have taken their destinies in their
hands, by establishing private schools from nursery to secondary and higher
institutions, offering education to the teaming population of our nation.
6.
There are many
graduates of mass communication today in our nation, who cannot be employed by
government broadcasting stations. These set of graduates have established
various media outfits, becoming independent presenters and offering beneficial
services to the general public.
7.
There are many
graduate pharmacists in our nation today, who cannot get any gainful employment
with government; and many of them have resolved into establishing pharmaceutical
firms and centers to offer professional services to the public.
Now to
chaplains in Nigeria: Are your own
obstacles and hindrances greater than that of all other known professionals.
Must government employ you whether you are qualified or not? Must government
employ you even when you know there are no places for you?
Are sure you have adequate training as chaplain to
venture into private practice? What stops you from establishing your own
private chaplaincy practice, if you are qualified? For how long are you going
to wait for government to come and offer you employment? Food for thought!
