Topic: PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE AND CHAPLAINS’ RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONTRIBUTIONS.

WELCOME: Beloved practicing chaplains, you are welcome severally and collectively to this month’s outing, believing that you will have a valuable contributions towards offering solutions to problems of peaceful co-existence in our nation and continent.

PREAMBLE: People of Africa and African descent all over the world have been known in the past as people who are faourably disposed to living together in communities and societies, thereby maintaining peaceful co-existence and fostering unity amongst various ethnic and tribal groups that there are in various communities and societies of our land.

It is unfortunate that in the past decades, the story has assumed a different dimension where there is zero tolerance for peaceful co-existence of people of ethnic and tribal groups who had lived together harmoniously for centuries, decades, intermarrying and doing things together in communities and societies where they sojourn.

In this practice detailing, it is my wish that we work closely together as professionals and solution providers, to what our contributions and responsibilities are in finding needed solutions to the problems we are confronted with in our present situations.

QUESTIONS:

Question 1: What in your opinion is peaceful coexistence and why is it necessary for any meaningful development in families, institutions, communities, societies and nations?

Question 2: What in your opinion has truncated the peaceful co-existence we had enjoyed with people of other ethnic and tribal groups before now?

Question 3: How can peaceful co-existence be restored to people of different ethnic groups and tribes?

Question 4: Why do you consider chaplains to be best suited to help foster unity and ensure peaceful co-existence in various communities of our nation and why?

Question 5: How well have chaplains performed in this in your community and nation?

Question 6:  If your answer to question 5 is below average or no performance at all, what will you say is wrong? How can this be rectified?

Question 7: What in your opinion is unity and its essence?

Question 8: How can unity or disunity affect the progress and development of people, the community and a nation at large?

Question 9: Which of these is more profitable and why? Unity or disunity in the society?

Question 10: Make a list of 5 factors or issues that can bring about disunity amongst people in the community and nations of the world?

Question 11: How should these factors be handled by chaplains? be very practical and sight examples where such solutions are very effective.

When there is lack of peaceful co-existence between people, the resultant effect will be:

a.     Lack of trust.

b.     Unstable peace.

c.      Bitter jealousy.

d.     Unhealthy competitions.

e.     Strife.

f.       Violence.

g.     Destruction of lives and properties.

Question 12: What can chaplains do to prevent the societal vices listed above or provide remedies for them in societies witnessing such?

NB: Professional chaplaincy practice and service delivery has gone beyond speculations, guessing or imaginary acts, it requires practical application of knowledge, competencies and skills acquired in training which require you to showcase or demonstrate in this episode.

Professional chaplaincy practice and service delivery has also gone beyond lip service or mouth organ.

Showcase how chaplains can assist Nigeria in coming out of the dilemma she is presently confronted with?

Question 13: What qualitied must chaplains who intend to foster unity and maintain peaceful co-existence amongst people must possess? List 5 of such qualities.
