WELCOME: I welcome you all severally and collectively to this month’s outing, believing that we will see the need to rise up to our responsibilities as problem-solvers to offer beneficial services to people in our various societies and nations who are faced and bedeviled with the problems of divorce and abandonment.

TOPIC: The Increase Rate of Divorce and Abandonment by Married Couples.

PREAMBLE:  The rate and the ease at which people all over the world get divorced is very alarming and has become a matter of global concern. It is on record that there are more divorces nowadays than the number of marriages solemnized.

This situation calls for greater and better attention on the part of professionals who have the mandate to help mend broken homes and marriages, striving hard to prevent divorce and abandonment.

POINT 1: DIVORCE

a.     What in your own understanding is divorce?

b.     How has divorce affected the society, negatively or positively?

c.      How common or rare is divorce in your community and nation?

POINT 2: SEPARATION

a.     What in your opinion is separation?

b.     Is separation the same as divorce? If no, what is the differences between both?

c.      Is separation of couples any use at all in solving marital problems? Give reasons for your answer

d.     What should come first separation or divorce?

e.     What can professionals help to bring our in the lives of separated couples?

POINT 3: ABANDONMENT

a.     What in your opinion is abandonment among married couples?

b.     What can cause abandonment in marriage relationship?

c.      How can professionals help abandoned couple?

GENERAL QUESTION: What devastating effects can separation, divorce and abandonment on the couple, children, parents and the society at large?

NB: Beloved chaplains, separation, divorce and abandonment have grave consequences on the society, name 5 most consequences known to you.

POINT 4: PARENTING

a.     What in your opinion is parenting?

b.     Is there anything like good or bad parenting? If yes, what are the differences?

c.      How has separation, divorce and abandonment affected parenting?

d.     Is good parenting learnable? If yes, how? If no, why?

e.     What roles can practicing chaplains, marriage counselors/therapists, family counselors/therapists play in ensuring good parenting in the society?

f.       What would chaplains be preventing in the society if they rise up to their responsibility in enduring good parenting?

POINT 5: CAUSES

It is an accepted adage that there can be no smoke without fire; in like manner, separation, divorce and abandonment do not just occur, there are known causes which may vary from society to society.

a.     List 5 most common causes in your operation and jurisdiction.

b.     How can these causes be prevented among martial couples?

c.      How can they be handled among couples who have being separated, divorces and abandoned?

POINT 6: DEPRESSED AND UNFAVOURABLE SITUATIONS

In depressed economy or when a nation is experiencing economic downturn or recession, experts are called upon to come forward to offer needed solutions capable of bringing about an economic recovery. In the case of separation, divorce and abandonment:

a.     Who are the experts and specialists that must be called upon for recovery or reversal?

b.     How readily available are such experts and where can be found and accessed?

POINT 7: GROWING EXPERTS AND SPECIALISTS

a.     Who should be responsible for growing these experts and specialists?

b.     What roles should chaplains play in such situations?

c.      What roles or obligation do chaplaincy association or institutions have to the society in cases of separation, divorce and abandonment?
