Chaplaincy Solutions

Chaplaincy Solutions
I am delighted to be given the opportunity to discuss this, what is called “Chaplaincy Solutions.”
Solution for the sake of this discourse simply means, solutions proffered in a solving a particular problem in individual life or collectively in the society.
Chaplaincy solutions are therefore solutions proffered to find the needed solutions to issues using chaplaincy and chaplaincy related knowledge and practice. It is no gain saying to say that there are numerous problems in life and in the societies of the world calling for attention, care and solutions.
1.     Architectural problems usually call for architectural solutions, which are usually provided by qualified professional architects in the world.
2.     Engineering problems are usually provided with engineering solutions by qualified engineers who have robust knowledge of problem-solving in engineering field.
3.     For every problems associated with medical health care, medical solution are proffered by qualified competent medical professionals or health care practioners.
4.     For every legal issues and problems, legal solutions are reserved for competent qualified legal professionals.
5.     For every accounting problems that raises it ugly heads, accounting solutions are usually provided by qualified accounting professionals.
Because I am a chaplain and at the same time I am doing a discourse on solutions; I will dwell more and deeper on chaplaincy solutions to problems.
a.     For every counseling problem and issues bedeviling people, counseling solutions are usually proffered by  qualified professional counselors as well as pastoral counselors and chaplains who have been trained in counseling issues to offer such services.
b.     For every family problem that crops up in the societies of the world, there must be appropriate solution offered by professional family chaplains, family therapists or counselors who have been specially trained for such task.
c.      For every relationship problems that crops up among people in the societies of the world, solutions are usually provided by qualified relationship chaplains, counselors.

Professional Specialty

Professional Specialty
Professional specialty is an area of discipline, study or something one specializes in. while it is possible for one to specialize in any particular religion as a study; religion is not an area in professional specialization. The religion the professional practioners belong to never provide them platform for specialization.
For example:
a.     Mechanical engineering is an area of specialization in engineering field, there are Christian mechanical engineers, muslim mechanical engineers or hindu mechanical engineers.
b.     Criminal law is an area of specialization in the legal profession, there are Christian criminal lawyers as well as muslim criminal lawyers ; their religions do not provide them a platform of specialization.
c.      Correctional chaplaincy is an area of specialization in chaplaincy profession with Christian correctional chaplains, as well as muslim correctional chaplains; their religions play no part in their areas of specialization.
d.     Military chaplaincy is an area of specialization, with charitian and muslim chaplains in the military service.
e.     Police chaplaincy is also a specialized area of chaplaincy profession and practice, with Christian and muslim chaplains in the service of the force men.
f.       Orthopedic is an area of specialization in medicine, with Christian and muslim orthopedic doctors; religion has nothing to do on their areas of specialization.
g.     Virology is a specialized area in medical service with Christian and muslim virologists at work; their religion play no part in their specialties.
This clarification becomes necessary so as to remove any form of confusion or misconception people may have had before now.
Your specialty is usually determined by your gifting, area of training and field you are best suited for.
Get it right now what specialization is all about and specialize in the area of your choice and study.

Chaplaincy Entrepreneurship (Chaplaincy Enterprises and Activities Chaplains can engage in as Beneficial Services to Humanity)

Chaplaincy Entrepreneurship (Chaplaincy Enterprises and Activities Chaplains can engage in as Beneficial Services to Humanity)

Chaplaincy enterprise and activities
Preamble:
There are numerous opportunities opened for us chaplains to offer services to the people of our generation and world, as we seek to be beneficial to humanity in our activities and professional practice.
The chaplain that wants to render a particular or specific service or function must endeavor to identify what services are needed by the people for him or her to offer or render.
First and foremost, the chaplain must of necessity come to the understanding that all chaplaincy activities are service-oriented. In chaplaincy practice, there are no products or articles we put up for sale, we render and offer beneficial services to humanity which makes life more meaningful for them.
Chaplaincy profession and practice is service-oriented and must be ssen as such.
Secondly, the chaplain who intends to offer beneficial services to the people of his or her community or society must have an intention of serving. The chaplain must identify needs of the community or the society that is completely missing or lacking and thus in great demand and desire by the people to be severed.
Thirdly, the chaplain will then be expected to identify which of such needs, he or she has the ability, capability, knowledge and technical know how to handle; select such and make needed preparation to offer such service.
Fourthly, the starting point is expected to be very simple and small as the chaplain is preparing to commence offering whatever services; let it be small and simple so that there can be growth as the practice goes on and progresses.
Fifthly, the chaplain in seeking to offer beneficial services to the generality of the people of our generation and world must have or put in an office, center or base, whatever such is coined – where the services and practice being offered can be accessed by the people to be served.
Even when such services are to be offered online, there must still be a base from where such operations are carried on.
Sixth, another important factor which is needed by the chaplain in offering services is professional skills. Each beneficial services to be offered or rendered by the chaplain must be done with high professional skill; which makes it mandatory for only professionally qualified chaplains to venture into providing chaplaincy services and service delivery to the people.
Kinds of Services Chaplains may offer the General Public:
Such services may be for individual persons, corporate bodies, groups, communities etc.
1.     Counseling services.
2.     Psychotherapy services.
3.     Services to public institutions such as,
a.     Schools.
b.     Colleges.
c.      Prisons/jails.
d.     Juvenile centers.
e.     Law enforcement agencies.
4.     Emergency services to National or State Emergency Management Agencies.
5.     Chaplaincy services to victims of accidents and their relations.
a.     Fire services both at federal and state levels.
b.     Road accident collaborations with Federal Road Safety Corps and State Ambulance Medical Services.
6.     Consultancy Services.
7.     Spiritual services.
8.     Religious services.
9.     Interfaith and multifaith services.
I need to say here very emphatically that whatever service or services, chaplains choose to offer as beneficial services to humanity must compulsorily include pastoral care services.
Any chaplaincy practice and activities devoid of pastoral care services, spiritual care services and service delivery is not chaplaincy.

Psychology

Psychology
Permit me to define psychology as a branch of science and discipline that deals with the science of soul and mind, distinct from that of the spirit. For your information, we have the following known types of psychology:
1.     Christian psychology.
2.     Applied psychology.
3.     Educational psychology.
4.     Clinical psychology.
5.     Behavioural psychology.
6.     Cognitive psychology.
The various branches of psychology are employed by professionals to proffer solutions to various problems of humanity.
Beloved chaplains, as a consultant theologian, I stand here to say science has never been in conflict with Christian theology, it has actually proved the teachings of the Bible.
Psychiatric doctors use psychology principles to care for their patients with insanity regardless of their religious affiliation.
Psychologists, psychotherapists and psycho-spirituo therapists employ clinical psychology to care for their clients/patients suffering from mental health problems, people whose minds are troubled and people with broken hearts regardless of religion.
Behavioural therapists make use of cognitive psychology in effecting the needed change in people’s behaviours regardless of religion. Industrial experts make use of applied psychology in providing solutions in industries and in systemic concerns regardless of religion.
In chaplaincy, professional chaplains provide chaplaincy services to people as multifaith and interfaith ministers beyond the walls of chaplains and religions. There is no single profession that takes people away from their beliefs and religions.
Just as the professionals are secured from losing their faiths and religions, in practice of chaplaincy; clients are also secured from being lured into or cohered into another religion by professionals who offer to help solve their problems, this is what we called proselytizing which is not allowed by chaplaincy as a profession.
Chaplaincy profession has set boundaries for professional practioners so as not to become religious fanatics like the bokoharam we are witnessing in the part of West Africa presently. What a wonderful profession!
Professional chaplains, be rest assured that chaplaincy practice has a place for religious duties in practice as there is always respect for the Creator God as well as respect for religious beliefs for clients and their relations.
However, only trained professionals know this and when the call for religious duties comes their ways.

Discovered Truth

Discovered Truth
There are things which makes one excel above others in life; some of these I am about enumerating here below. Anyone who is seeking excellence will know what he/she has to develop and have.
1.     Uncommon endowments from Almighty God which is beyond what is granted others.
2.     Uncommon life style. Many of the people that excelled in life lived uncommon life style such as solitary lives, adventurous lives and exploitative lives.
3.     Uncommon ambition. This is holy and profitable ambition to benefit humanity.
4.     Uncommon character. This is an elevated character which is able to distinguish one from others and also makes one superior to others.
5.     Uncommon dedication. This is high dedication to duty, to calling, to one’s profession and occupation which is capable of making one distinct and different from others.
6.     Uncommon education and training. This is high standard of education and training which prepares one for the task ahead and makes different from others.
7.     Uncommon knowledge. This is a special knowledge which must be acquired either by learning on the job, education, training, experience or exposure, which makes one specially prepared for a task.
8.     Uncommon wisdom. This is another endowment of God which one can pray to have which is capable of making one to excel above others. For example, Wisdom of Solomon.
9.     Uncommon spirit. Again, this is an endowment of God and can also be prayed for, which is capable to making one different from others and excel above others. E.g. Uncommon spirit endowed Daniel in Babylon.
10.                         Uncommon skills. Skills are usually developed or acquired in training, skill acquisition or capacity development; which gives one the opportunity to perform better than others.
11.                        Uncommon understanding. This is not a gift as such but must be developed; as robust understanding of one’s work, profession, occupation etc. makes ones to excel above others in life.
12.                        Uncommon sacrifice. In trodden the path of excellence, one must be able to make sacrifices denying oneself some pleasantries, comfort and enjoyment; for it is not possible for one to eat his/her cake and  also have it at the same time.
13.                        Uncommon planning. It is an accepted adage that one who fails to plan for success is actually planning to fail. There must be adequate planning for success and excellence for it does not just come in the form of magic or miracle.
14.                        Uncommon perseverance. One must demonstrate uncommon perseverance and doggedness for what one beliefs in and what one is pursuing in life. There are always many dissenting voices and discouragement in life; and if one cannot persistently stand his/her ground, one may be taken away from the path of success and excellence.
15.                        Uncommon goal setting. This is a goal setting which denotes a blueprint for what you want to accomplish in life, professionally, educationally, materially and service wise.
16.                        Will power and determination. This may involve political will, career will, spiritual will, social will etc, which makes people different, excelling above others.

Powerful Wind of Change

Powerful Wind of Change
History made and recorded when the participants are alive not dead; can hardly lie or be faltered. A powerful wind of change blow across chaplaincy community in Nigeria, and by extension, the continent of Africa, after the inauguration of the Fellowship of Civil Chaplains of Nigeria, precisely April 29th-30th, year AD 2016.
This kind of change which started immediately in May 2016 came to a climax in July 2016, resulting in the disintegration of the Fellowship of Civil Chaplains of Nigeria. In August year AD 2016, this wind of change led to the birth of the Association of Professional Chaplains, focusing attention on chaplaincy professionalization, professional chaplaincy practice and service delivery; for which an incorporation was granted by Corporate Affairs Commission 5th July, 2017AD.
The wind of change resulted in:
1.     Reorientation of chaplains in the continent of Africa.
2.     Restructuring of chaplaincy organizations to accommodate professional chaplains as well as career chaplains from all sectors of the economy.
3.     Standardization of chaplaincy practice in the continent of Africa.
4.     Establishment of codes of ethics for practicing chaplains and spiritual care practioners in the continent of Africa.
5.     Establishment of codes of conducts for practicing chaplains and spiritual care practioners in the continent of Africa.
6.     Establishment of standard of practice for chaplains and spiritual care practioners in the continent of Africa.
What a beneficial wind of change!
Benefits of the Wind of Year 2016AD

The wind of change of Dec. 7th Year 2016AD in chaplaincy community in Nigeria and by extension, the continent of Africa came with a devastating and scattering effects, however to s in the Association of Professional Chaplains, it came with accrued benefits. Praise God!
1.     The wind of change gave us in APCIN greater concern for the well-being and welfare of the people in the public domain and various clients of our professionals dotted all over the continent.
2.     The wind of change made us in APCIN to make comfort, peace, well-being to be our primary assignment in professional chaplaincy practice and service delivery.
3.     The wind of change, made s to put together efforts in providing needed services to the total man (wholistic care).
4.     The wind of change made s to devote greater attention conducting researches into social problems bedeviling humans and the needed solutions to such problems.
5.     The wind of change made us to make a better reception for vulnerable groups in the society and to make provisions for the care of the vulnerable people in the society.
6.     The wind of change has been instrumental in shifting our focus away trivialities.
7.     The wind of change has made us to double our efforts in the sustainable development of individual chaplains for personal actualization and effective service delivery.
8.     The wind of change has made us to lay greater emphasis on member chaplains, offering global best chaplaincy practice to clients and the publics at large.
9.     The wind of change made to come to the knowledge of how hospitality cultivating inclusion, time and space are essential in practice and makes us and our services acceptable by the people we serve.
10.                        The wind of change has made us to see how important collaborative health care and how chaplains complete the picture of collaborative health care.
Desiring to know more, contact Chap. Prof. Mike David.

The wind of change has taken chaplaincy community away from jamboree chaplaincy, with fire brigade approach. Chaplaincy community can now speak of professionalism. The wind of change has been beneficial to chaplaincy profession, the general public as well as the chaplains themselves.

Our nascent professional chaplaincy practice must be jealously guarded and sustained. Let us all buy the truth to keep and never put it on sale for whatever reason.
This positive wind of change was brought about by a change maker Archbishop Chap. Prof. Mike David JP, AP, CPC, CCE.

Looming Danger Ahead

Looming Danger Ahead
There is a looming danger, calamity and disaster ahead for chaplaincy profession, practice and service delivery and chaplains as well if urgent step is not taken now to prevent such.
There is a calculated attempted by mischief makers to keep chaplains in the continent of Africa in perpetual servitude by ensuring they remain in their stunted growth and development by luring them away from quality education and professional training  that is beneficial to them.
Instead they are promoted and granted honourary awards for nonperformance. What a mockery and insult on the profession and the professionals in this part of the world.
Any award which is not earned by the act of hard work, excellence, performance or on merit is a calculated effort to keep one in perpetual stunted in growth, development and stagnation; it must be resisted.
Anything short of professional training and skill acquisition is to rubbish a given profession, the professionals and make them quacks.

Chaplaincy Community

Chaplaincy Community
The chaplaincy community in the continent of Africa needs to put in place a strategy that will tactically help in driving the chaplaincy profession in the chaplaincy industry.
1.     Trained professional chaplains must be allowed to drive the chaplaincy industry.
2.     Highly educated chaplains who have robust knowledge of chaplaincy should be allowed to drive chaplaincy industry.
3.     Chaplains who have robust understanding of what chaplaincy practice should be put in place to drive the chaplaincy industry.
4.     Qualified chaplaincy educators should be grown and developed to make chaplaincy education available to the public.
5.     Qualified professional chaplains should be allowed to drive chaplaincy profession and its practice in Africa.
I enjoin those with these qualities to come out from their hiding and take charge and responsibility to making chaplaincy profession and practice what is should be in the continent of Africa.

Africa and Chaplaincy Work or Enterprise

Africa and Chaplaincy Work or Enterprise
Africa with a population of about 800 million people, presents a fertile ground for chaplaincy works and enterprise. This huge population support profitable chaplaincy enterprises and works.  In almost all sectors of the economy, chaplaincy enterprise and works are different. For example:
1.     In the healthcare sector, there are:
a.     Hospital chaplaincy practice.
b.     Palliative care centers.
c.      Hospice care centers.
d.     Mental health care centers.
e.     Psycho-social therapeutic centers.
Where people can obtain quality care services without traveling overseas. However, we must grow the professionals who will offer such services first.

2.     Africa is blessed with numerous families and communities, who desire to have the services of:
a.     Family chaplains, counselors or therapists.
b.     Community chaplains.
c.      Marriage chaplains.
d.     Children counselors, chaplains or therapists.
e.     Psycho-social therapists.
f.       Psycho-spiritual therapists etc.
To attend to people having one problem or the other in their personal lives, family lives, professional lives, marital lives, social lives etc.
Indeed, Africa is a fertile ground!
Africa my Continent:
1.     Africa deserves to have the right concept of chaplaincy as obtained in other continents of the world.
2.     Africa deserve to have the right chaplaincy education like her counterparts in the developed nations of the world.
3.     Africa deserves to enjoy global best chaplaincy practice like her counterparts in the world.
4.     Africa deserves to enjoy best chaplaincy service delivery like her counterparts in the world.
5.     Africa deserves to enjoy the beauty of professional chaplaincy practice and service delivery in the form of specializations just as her counterparts in the other parts of the world do.
Chaplains in Africa, of African descent and people from other parts of the world may help us; but chaplains in Africa must take upon themselves the responsibility of ushering in profitable and beneficial chaplaincy practice and service delivery to the continent of Africa.

Chaplaincy is a Noble Profession

Chaplaincy is a Noble Profession
Every profession known to the world has some slogans and statements, chaplaincy profession is not an exemption. Chaplaincy is a noble profession is one of such statements or slogans.
This particular statement or slogan is a true statement, but has a meaning. People who are endowed with sound and analytical minds will be able to bring out uch meanings.
Go along with me on this journey and discourse, as I endeavor to make known to you all the nobility ascribed to chaplaincy profession which makes the profession unique and special as a noble profession.
The nobility chaplaincy enjoys comes from the followings:-
1.     Superiority of mind or character of the professionals called “Chaplains.”
2.     Excellence performance of chaplains at all times.
3.     The state of being of high rank as a profession.
4.     Patrician dignity.
5.     Distinction by rank and competence.
6.     Grandeur, greatness and dignity of the profession.
7.     Elevation and worthiness of the practioners.
8.     Loftiness of character on the part of practioners.
9.     Moral excellence of practioners who were considered to be epitome of morality.
10.                        Elevation of mind and exaltation of character or ideals or conducts.
Beloved chaplains, remember that whatever nobility we have enjoyed in chaplaincy, had been labored for and earned by practicing chaplains who came into chaplaincy profession ahead of us and we must endeavor to jealously guard such for sustenance.
We should not engage in whatever may dent the image of our noble profession chaplaincy or bring it to disrepute. Chaplaincy remains a noble profession, do not destroy it.
