CHAPLAINCY EDUCATION

Just as education is accepted to be the bedrock of any meaningful development in life and society; right Chaplaincy education is also the bedrock of any meaningful development in Chaplaincy profession, practice and service delivery such as:-
a. Personal development of Chaplains.
b. Development of Chaplaincy profession.
c. Development of Chaplaincy community of practice.
d. Development of Chaplaincy standard of practice.
Let all Chaplains struggle to become skillful to enhance productivity and profitability. Prof. Mike

Professional Development of Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy in her development has gone beyond ritualistic and religious services. Chaplaincy has progressed to the level of evidence-base practice and clinical practice (supervised clinical chaplaincy practice).
Chaplaincy has progressed to inclusion of spiritual care services professionally. Keep yourselves abreast of this development to remain relevant.
Why Chaplaincy is Respected:
Chaplaincy is practiced world over because of the beneficial services the professionals offer to the public. Chaplaincy is respected because her services provided by her professional to people of all genders, races, ages, cultures,  people of all religions and people of non-religions.
Chaplaincy is respected because of high education of her professionals and also because of the competence her professionals demonstrate in practice.
Chaplaincy is respected because of the attention her professionals give to spiritual issues and matters not because of matching or parade.
Chaplaincy Practice:
Chaplaincy practice has become people- oriented and people-focused practice and service delivery and as well nature-focused and also a service that is all inclusive of all creatures of God (both human, animal and trees). What an advancement in our noble profession.
All practicing chaplains must learn to keep themselves abreast of the new development in the profession to enable them discharge their duties well and distinguish themselves from all other quacks styling themselves chaplains.

The View of a Clinical Psycho-spirituo Therapist, Prof. Mike-Jacobs JP on the Incessant and Astronomical Increase in the Rate of Suicide in the Nation and Society.

The View of a Clinical Psycho-spirituo Therapist, Prof. Mike-Jacobs JP on the Incessant and Astronomical Increase in the Rate of Suicide in the Nation and Society.
Many people in our society and nation are presently passing through hardship and difficulties in life. However, such difficulties and hardship usually lead people into crisis, frustration, uncertainty and finally depression which is a sure way to suicide.
Factors that help to trigger suicide:
I wish to classify such functions to the following categories:
a.     Social factors: Such as high rate of unemployment, bad governance, hardship.
b.     Economic factors: Such as bad economic policies of government, economic hardship, unpaid salaries and wages, indebtedness, high rate of interest on loan.
c.      Psychological factors: Such as frustration, unresolved crisis and conflict, unmet expectations, anxiety, depression.
d.     Emotional factors: Such as unhealed hurting, disappointment, insatiable desires, isolation, relational problems.
e.     Environmental factors: Such as peer pressure, high rate of social vices, high rate of drug consumption.
f.       Health factors: Such as sudden discovery of terminal illness, sudden discovery of HIV/AID, sudden accident which lead to loss of limps, making one become liability.
Remedies:
The only remedy for suicide and suicidal actions is prevention in nature. I want to state here very categorically that curative remedy for suicide or suicide action is non-existence. Once we allow suicide to take place without preventing it, that particular life is lost and can never be restored.
NB: In attending to suicidal people with the intention of preventing suicide or suicidal actions the followings must be put in place:
1.     Psycho-social therapeutic centers by professional clinical psychotherapists, spirituotherapists, psychologists, professional counselors, professional chaplains etc, where people and the public can access the needed intervention, counseling therapeutic treatments to issues leading to suicide.
2.     Government must assist professionals in assessing loans and funding for such psycho-social centers.
3.     Bank of industries, central bank and World Bank should come to the aid of professionals who are prepared to set up centers for the prevention of suicide and suicidal actions in the society and the nation at large.
4.     Government must reduce drastically the rate of youth’s unemployment.
5.     Government should put in place good economic policies that will enable businesses of the masses to thrive and pay salaries and wages as at when due.
6.     Government should encourage and provide good business environments for people to venture into.
In conclusion, I wish to challenge all clinical psychotherapists, spirituotherapists, psychologists, professional counselors, professional chaplains etc, in this nation to rise up to their responsibilities of providing needed care, attention and services to people in preventing suicide and suicidal actions in people as well as making needed contributions when they are requested to speak on suicide and suicidal actions.
Some of the contributions we got from non-professionals in the public are absurd. How can setting ablaze suicidal victim ablaze help to prevent suicide? Link up with-

Navigating through Life Difficulties or through Difficulties in life

Navigating through Life Difficulties or through Difficulties in life
Preamble:
There are so many or numerous difficulties people are made to encounter in life’s journey. It is also becoming increasingly difficult for people to navigate through such difficulties on their own without professional help or assistance.
This is the reason why we have the professional mandate as chaplains to assist or help people to navigate profitably through life’s difficulties and challenges which they are faced with as they journey through life stages.
What a wonderful profession and unique opportunity to serve humanity!
Life: Is defined as;
1.     As in being, that which exist in any form, whether it be material of people, actual or ideal.
2.     Living existence as distinguished from things without life.
3.     The state of being which begins with generation, birth, and ends with death; also the time being which this state continues.
4.     The union of the soul and body and the duration of their union, sometimes proceeding to the deathless quality of the soul.
5.     Certain way or manner of living, with respect to condition, circumstances, character, conduct, occupation etc.
6.     Something dear to one as life existence.
Difficulty: Is defined as;
1.     The state of being difficult or hard to do.
2.     Hardness or harduousness, something hard to do or understand.
3.     That which occasions labour requiring skill and perseverance to overcome, solve or achieve.
4.     A hard enterprise, an obstacle.
5.     A controversy, falling out, disagreement, an objection etc.
Navigate: Navigating can be defined as:-
1.     Directing carefully and safely.
Life’s difficulties or difficulties in life can rightly be said to be the followings:-
1.     Hindrances to God’s given life and purposes.
2.     Obstacles to the smooth running of life.
3.     Blockages that prevent actualization and fulfillment of life’s goals.
4.     Unnecessary diversion from focus and achievements.
5.     Challenges capable of truncating or changing one’s purpose for existence.
6.     Hard and difficult situations, conditions and circumstances that require professional skills and competence to solve.
7.     Confrontations that seems to make life unbearable for people and make life distasteful.
How then can we as Professional Chaplains assist or help people in Navigating through Life’s Difficulties?
1.     We must first and foremost identify the difficulties, challenges and obstacles they have.
2.     Give them proper direction as to how to overcome such hindrances.
3.     Help them circumvent obstacles or hindrances as water or river does to any obstacles and beyond the obstacles continues its journey.
4.     Helping to find needed solutions to problems that constitute themselves to obstacles or hindrances.
5.     Only professional chaplains who have the skills and experience will be able to help people navigate through life’s difficulties.
The bottom line here again is adequate training and competence which is gained through experiences. This is the more reason why we of Association of Professional Chaplains in Nigeria and continent of Africa emphasizes on adequate training for competent professional chaplaincy practice and service delivery.
Many of the tasks and assignments we are called upon to handle and perform can never be handled by quacks, proper and adequate training is key to effective chaplaincy service delivery.
The understanding of every professional mandate by practicing chaplains is of paramount importance as this understanding will aid performance.
APCIN provides you the opportunity to become a chaplaincy specialist if you so desire. Specialist chaplaincy professionals are highly needed in various societies of our world.
Make up your mind to become one and contact the undersigned for specialized training, you will be glad you do.

Should the Hopeless be Allowed to Remain Hopelessly Hopeless?

Should the Hopeless be Allowed to Remain Hopelessly Hopeless?
Preamble:
People are in various conditions and circumstances situations in life. Some are full of hopes and vibrant in the pursuit of their set goals, while some have lost hope and remain hopelessly hopeless.
The big question to be answered is “should such people be allowed to remain in their hopelessness or something should be done to assist them regain hope in life?”
Journey along with me in this discourse and you will be able to see what is expected of us professionals.
What is your understanding and opinion is hope?
Hope: Is defined as;
1.     A desire of some good accompanied with an expectation of obtaining it.
2.     A belief that something is obtainable.
3.     An expectation of something desirable.
4.     Confidence.
5.     Pleasing expectancy.
6.     Specific instance of xxxxx hopeful.
7.     General feelings that desires will be fulfilled.
Hopelessness: Is defined as;
1.     Destitute of hopes.
2.     Having no expectation of good.
3.     Despairing.
4.     Having no ground of hope or for hope.
5.     No possibility of hope, comfort or success.
6.     Despair felt when hope of comfort or success is abandoned.
7.     Not qualified or suited for a purpose.
8.     Hopeless incompetent person.
Hopelessness is a state demonstrated by some people at any particular time because of the loss or lack of expectation of good. People thus become hopelessly hopeless and require that professionals work upon them to:-
a.     Rekindle hope in them.
b.     Regain hopefulness in life.
c.      Take them away from desperation or despair.
d.     Assist them to get the needed comfort and fulfillment and success no matter how little.
Professional Mandate: Our professional mandate as chaplains demands:-
a.     Helping people in hopeless situation to regain hope.
b.     Rekindle hope in them.
c.      Fertilizing the ground or preparing ground for hopes or expectation of good.
d.     Equipping people to be competent enough in the discharge of their duties as incompetence erodes very fast confidence; lack of confidence leads to hopelessness.
Practicing professional chaplains by their trainings are expected to be able to offer needed assistance to people in hopeless situations; they should therefore not be allowed to remain in the state of hopelessness.
Professional Efforts: Our professional efforts and duties as chaplains are as follows:-
1.     Ensuring that hopeless individuals are gainfully engaged or has something doing on daily basis.
2.     Ensuring that they engage in works or jobs they are competent in doing, for incompetence leads to frustration, lack of confidence and desperation.
3.     Ensuring that they are thoroughly instructed on proper financial management; it is financial suicide for one to give away his/her life savings to people and relations before death without considering any investment, for a yielding business today or lucrative jobs today may not yield anything in the nearest future.
4.     Professionals must learn to take hopeless people on the path of success as success is a journey.
5.     Professionals must learn to rekindle hope in the hopeless, ensuring the expectancy of good comes.
6.     Chaplains must learn to give them good direction to the Almighty God who has the power to bring about good things, satisfaction and fulfillment in life.
7.     Chaplains must learn to prepare a ground for the hopeless for expectation of good things.
8.     People who are pleasure seekers will always fall into hopelessness, professional chaplains must therefore be tactful and skillful enough in taking such people away from seeking meaningless pleasure as comfort, satisfaction and fulfillment are more profitable.
9.     There is dignity in labour, and the Almighty who made all people to labour can never make a mistake; as such professional chaplains must learn to discourage parasitic living, idleness and tendencies as they both lead frustration and hopelessness.
10.                        Chaplains must learn to teach people how to be pessimistic in life and to hope for good in life with right attitude.
Key into the provision of APCIN and get trained to offer profitable and beneficial services to humanity.

Discovered potentials, when coupled truth and creativity; fully enhance leads to actualization whereas ignorance when coupled with wretchedness and indolence leads to all forms of criminality. Prof. Mike-Jacobs

PRESENT LEVEL OF INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION

PRESENT LEVEL OF INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION

With the present level of information and orientation on Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy practice and service delivery, it is embarrassing to note and discover that there are Chaplains doing nothing, waiting for government laws and recognition before they will begin to offer beneficial services to people in the areas of jurisdiction. What a pity!
If the motorcycle riders did not wait for government laws and recognition before they swing into action, carrying people from one place to another and because of the beneficial services they offered, the public and government sought them, granted them recognition to control their activities; why are Chaplains waiting passively, contributing nothing to the economic development of the nation; yet calling for recognition?
The sure way to people and government recognition is profitable and beneficial Chaplaincy practice. Start today! Prof. Mike

FLASHING NEWS

FLASHING NEWS

Special family courts are emerging in Nigeria to provide friendly court services to families.
This gives children opportunities to take parents and guardians to court on family issues.
Paradoxically, there is an emergence of specialist family doctors to provide medical services to families and children.
There should therefore be an emergence of specialist family chaplains to correspondingly provide chaplaincy services and care to families. Interested chaplains contact Prof. Mike

HERCULIAN TASK

HERCULIAN TASK

As practicing professional chaplains who have the mandate of helping to make people happy, have an herculian task in hands in the sense that what many consider will give them happiness do not actually give them happiness in life.
As professionals therefore, we need to know how happiness is attained in life. Let us double our efforts, break new grounds, make new discoveries and distinguish ourselves in the service of humanity. Prof. Mike

PRESTIGIOUS EARNINGS

PRESTIGIOUS EARNINGS

REALITIES OF LIFE AND THE RELEVANCE OF CHAPLAINS

REALITIES OF LIFE AND THE RELEVANCE OF CHAPLAINS

Some people proverbially consider life to be a shadow or young plant blossoming with flowers in the early hours of the morning but after receiving the scorching sun in the become no more.
The realities of life however, are as follows:
1. Life is given to us to live and not to control.
2. Life is full of ups and downs.
3. Life is full of many challenges, problems and difficulties .
4. Life is full of uncertainty.
It is only on this part of circle of life that our assistant and help as professional chaplains and spiritual care providers are needed for beyond this part of circle of life the assistant of man is needed, beyond this part of the circle of life the assistant of man is not required. Let us therefore arise and work assiduously amongst all people, given meaning to them in life and helping them to live the life given to the fullest. Remain eternally blessed. Prof. Mike

FAILURE

FAILURE

Although failure is distasteful, undesired and never prayed for, yet failure abounds in all human endeavors in life.
Many inventions and successes we celebrate and hail today were not results of first attempt, many attempt had to be made before success was attained.
Failure therefore has been discovered to be part of normal life, this gives us a serious concern as professional chaplains for there are people in the society who consider failure to be the end of life instead of seeing failure as an opportunity for a a new beginning to excellence.
We have an herculian task as chaplains to work amongst such people bringing about a change in their perception and helping them to navigate through life difficulties. This duty is enough for us to occupy our time for posterity is waiting for us all. God bless you all. Prof. Mike

HUMAN NEEDS AND DESIRES

HUMAN NEEDS AND DESIRES

Human needs and desires are so numerous and vary from person to person which put most people on their toes on daily basis.
Most people therefore result to labour to earn some money to enable them meet with such needs.
Incredibly surprising some people are so comfortable doing nothing, making no efforts to legitimately earn a living but they are the people who desire to bankroll every project they have in their families or they phantom on daily basis.
What kind of problems do you think these people have what remedies will you proffer?
Labour is not only dignified but also relevant and fundamental. Thanks. Prof. Mike

PROFESSIONAL CHAPLAINCY PRACTICE

PROFESSIONAL CHAPLAINCY PRACTICE

Professional Chaplaincy practice is key and fundamental in Chaplaincy profession and service delivery.

Only through professional Chaplaincy practice can Chaplains offer the public and the society at large the needed profitable and beneficial service to all people.
