VOICE OF GOD
In an attempt to venture into writing on the voice of
God, the following thought provoking questions must be answered adequately.
i.
Does God speak?
ii.
Did He speak in
the past? How did He?
iii.
Does God still
speak today? How does He speak?
iv.
Will God speak in
the future? How will He do so?
Correct and adequate answers to the thought provoking
questions listed above should be able to help our present world and
dispensation out of the confusion of this age.
SCRIPTURE
CONCERNING THE VOICE OF GOD:
“God who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake
in time past unto the fathers by the Prophets, hath in these last days spoken
unto us by His Son, whom He Hath appointed heir of all things by whom also He
made the world.” Heb. 1:1-2.
God used many approaches to send His messages to
people of old. He spoke to Isaiah in visions – Isa. 6; He spoke to Jacob in a
dream – Gen. 28:10-22; He spoke to Abraham and Moses personally – Gen. 18; Exo.
31:18.
However, Jesus is the fulfillment and culmination of
God’s revelation through the centuries. Under the Old Testament, God used many
ways and methodologies in speaking to people, but in the New Testament all was
done through the Son who fulfills the law and the Prophets, thereby making the
New Covenant – Math. 26:28; Acts 1:21. In the past, people are known for
holding in highest esteem, the voice of God and they are thrilled that the
Almighty God communicated with them or spake unto them.
The present day experience cannot be said to be the
same as in the past, even though many more people than ever crave to hear God
speak to them and they go to all length to entreat the Almighty to speak on
matters of great concern and interest to them, as if the Almighty hath suddenly
become unable to speak.
YES, God still speak but He can not be pressured or
bulldozed to speak for He speaks when He chooses and by whatever methods. Because
of the great reverence and respect people in the past had for the voice of God,
and how fearfully they received the voice of God made them to ascribe mysteries
and greatness to the voice of God as follows:-
Psalm 29:1-9
i.
The voice of God
is upon many waters – vs 3.
ii.
The voice of God
is thunder – vs 3.
iii.
Voice of God is
powerful – vs 4; Ps. 104:3.
iv.
Voice of the Lord
is full of majesty – vs 4; Ps. 104:3.
v.
Voice of the Lord
breakest the cedar of Lebanon – vs 5; Ps. 104:16.
vi.
The Voice of God
of the Lord divided the flames of fire – vs 7.
vii.
The Voice of the
Lord shaketh the wilderness – vs 8.
viii.
Voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve –
vs 9
ix.
The Voice of the
Lord discovereth the forest – vs 9.
The voice of the Lord as listed above denotes the
awesome power of the Almighty God for as He uttereth His voice, the earth and
the universe in its entirety shook, vibrating – Ps. 46:6.
The voice of God’s thunder was in heavens, the
lightening lightens the world, the earth trembled and shook – Ps. 77:18.
VOICE OF GOD
IS LIKE THAT OF A ROARING LION:
“He shall roar like a lion, when He does, the children
shall tremble from the west.” Hos. 11:10.
“The Lord shall roar from on high and utter His voice
from Hid holy habitation.” Jer. 25:30.
“The Lord shall roar out of Zion ,
and utter His voice from Jerusalem ;
and the heavens and earth shall shake.” Joel 3:16; Amos 1:2.
“Voice of the Lord through thunder and lightening and
as Moses spake God answered him by His voice.” Exo. 19:16-19.
The voice of God by thunder terrified the people –
Exo. 20:18.
NB: The greatness and terrifying voice of the Almighty, made
the people of old to reverence the voice of the Almighty God.
VOICE OF GOD
AS STILL SMALL VOICE - 1 KING 19:9-12:
i.
God was not in
the strong wind that preceded the voice of God.
ii.
God was also not
in the thunder.
iii.
God was also not
in the fire that preceded this voice.
Verse 12 was when the gentle still voice came unto His
Prophet.
NB: This shows that God can not be limited in the ways He
chooses to speak.
VOICE OF GOD
IS GLORIOUS – ISA. 30:30:
“The Lord shall cause His glorious voice to be heard…..”
i.
The Lord shall
cause His glorious voice to be heard.
ii.
Show the
lightening down His arms.
iii.
With indignation
of His anger.
iv.
With the flame of
a devouring fire.
v.
With scattering,
tempest and hail stone.
NB: Prophet Isaiah in this passage of the Scripture considers
the voice of God as a Glorious Voice which when sounded upon situations in
life; our enemies will tremble and fizzle away. Praise God!
WHY IS
REVERENCE FOR THE VOICE OF GOD DWINDLING OR DECREASING IN OUR GENERATION AND
WORLD TODAY?
i.
Many people in
our world are completely confused, as to whether or not Almighty God still
speaks like of old.
ii.
Preachers and
Teachers of the Word have failed to teach the people rightly on God’s voice.
iii.
Proliferation of
fake Prophets in our world, which has lead to high deception and extortion of
the public on daily basis by these fake Prophets.
iv.
Inability of
people to separate the voice of God, from that of Satan, demons, world, man and
that of the mind.
v.
Those who should
teach the public about the fear of God and the power in His voice, themselves
have no single fear for the Almighty God.
vi.
Many have
adulterated the voice of God and have thereby made the voice of Almighty God to
be less meaningful.
vii.
The increase of
ignorance on the part of the public of what the voice of Almighty God is.
There is no doubts whatsoever that Almighty God spake
in the past through various media and ways to His people. There is also no
doubts that even now, the Almighty God still speaks to His people in an
unlimited ways. This same Almighty God who will dwell with His people in the
eternal future will still speak to His people in His eternal Kingdom – Rev.
21:3. praise God !
We people of this age must come to an understanding of
the fact that God’s voice can not be compartmentalized and can speak to us by
whatever ways He chooses.
i.
By fire as of old
– Exo. 3:2; 19:18.
ii.
By the storm as
of old – Nah. 1:3-5.
iii.
In the cloud and
amongst cloud as of old – Exo. 19:9; 16:10-11.
iv.
In vision/dreams
as of old - Gen. 28:10-22; Isa. 6; Ezek 1; Acts 11:5.
v.
In trance as of
old Num. 24:4, 16; Acts 10:10.
vi.
Audibly as of old
– Exo. 3:4-6; 19:19.
vii.
By still small
voice as of old – 1 Kings 19:9-12.
