Run Away from any Profession that is Out to Impoverish You

Run Away from any Profession that is Out to Impoverish You
All established professions known to our world are beneficial and meant to make life better, more comfortable and enjoyable for the people of our world.
Example:
The engineering profession has been seeking ways of making life better for the populace.
1.     Automobile cars that used to come with manual operated gear levers have almost been replaced with automatic gear system, which makes people who have physical disabilities to be able to drive such automobile.
2.     Grinding machines have been provided through engineering fits to make life easier and less labourious for people especially rural dwellers.
3.     Machines that boil and pound yams – producing pounded yam at the same time has been produced to make life enjoyable for all and sundry.
Chaplaincy profession is also cut out to be of benefit to the people of our world.
1.     Can you enumerate what comfort, enjoyments and benefits chaplaincy has brought to people in Nigeria?
2.     Make a list of products chaplaincy has xxx out or services for the benefit of the people.
I in my person as a chaplain (chap. Prof. Mike-Jacobs) stand here to declare that the noble profession chaplaincy is beneficial to people of our world in whatever sectors of the economy they are found or in whatever nations of the world people sojourn.
If chaplaincy has been found to be beneficial, rewarding and profitable in developed nations of the world, and chaplaincy is considered otherwise in the continent of Africa and Nigeria in particular; the problem is not in the profession but the torch bearers of the profession in Nigeria and Africa.
These torch bearers are non-professionals but jamboree organizers, who know next to nothing about chaplaincy profession. Remember as many people as are led by blind man know their destination before their take off.
Chaplaincy profession can never impoverish you; but unknowledgeable chaplaincy leaders can impoverish and stagnate you in life, run away from them. Key into the revolutionary move and become professionally qualified and also profitable chaplain of our age.

Effective and Beneficial Chaplaincy Service Delivery in Nigeria and Continent of Africa.

Effective and Beneficial Chaplaincy Service Delivery in Nigeria and Continent of Africa.
For an effective and beneficial chaplaincy services delivery in Nigeria and Continent of Africa. These 8 Rs of chaplaincy must come to play.
For clarity of purpose, permit me here again to itemize the 7 Rs again with an additional one, with reasons why they must of necessity come to play in chaplaincy profession and chaplaincy practice.
1.     Restructuring Chaplaincy:
Either for lack of needed structures right from inception or deformed and polluted structures because of what was built on the original foundation; there is a need for the restructuring of chaplaincy and chaplaincy practice to enable it meet with the yearnings of the people of our nation and continent of Africa in contemporary times.
2.     Reorganizing Chaplaincy:
The present organization of chaplaincy outfits and organizations in our nation and Africa is precarious and chaotic, depicting an incoordination of highest order. This therefore calls for reorganizing of chaplaincy organizations and outfits in line with professional dictates and areas of specialization.
Health care chaplains will be concerned with people in the area of their specialization while the correctional and prison chaplains will concern themselves with their own specialized community.
3.     Reengineering Chaplaincy:
The way chaplaincy and chaplaincy practice was patterned in the past in Nigeria is nothing to be desired or write home about. There is therefore a need for a complete reengineering of chaplaincy and service delivery in our nation to enable practicing professional chaplains meet with the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian populace.
4.     Refocusing Chaplaincy:
Either the original focus of chaplaincy and service delivery was defective or has been shifted so badly that chaplains have been classified by people of this nation to be a set of confused, uncoordinated professionals. Thus calling for refocusing chaplaincy and service delivery in contemporary Nigeria and Africa.
5.     Representing Chaplaincy:
Chaplaincy had in the past been presented wrongly and in bad light to the general public, which gave chaplains the picture of terrors, terrorizing the society they are called to serve and even security agents by breaking through   road blocks with impunity; as they impersonate military officers, until of recent where such chaplains are beaten to a comatose level at check points for criminal acts.
There is therefore a need for us to - chaplaincy rightly and in the right light to the people of this great nation and continent. We must endeavor to re-present the right chaplaincy concept to the public.
We must endeavor to re-present the right chaplaincy to the public. We must endeavor to re-present chaplains (a new breed of chaplains) rightly to the public as professionals who interact with people with compassion and empathy not as brutes or terrors.
6.     Repositioning Chaplaincy:
The present position of chaplaincy, chaplaincy practice and service delivery in our nation Nigeria is nothing to write home about. There is therefore a need for us to reposition chaplaincy, chaplaincy practice and the service delivery in Nigeria to be able to bring benefits and dividends of chaplaincy to the people of our nation and continent of Africa.
7.     Recapitulating Chaplaincy:
Taking chaplaincy from one stage of development to another. Ensuring chaplaincy practice is not stagnated but allowed to move from one stage to another to ensure improved and effective chaplaincy service delivery.
8.     Re-invigorating Chaplaincy:
Practicing chaplains in Nigeria and Africa need reinvigoration for beneficial services to people of our great nation. There is an incessant need for chaplains in Nigeria and continent of Africa to be reinvigorated; to enable them be competent in offering the needed services at any given situation to people of our continent in contemporary times.
Chaplaincy profession as well as the practicing chaplains can become like their counterparts in developed nations of the world; if adequate precautions are taken.
As we have chosen chaplaincy to be our profession, let us into the situation surrounding the profession now and have a rethink and make the needed amendment for the needed change to take place. It is now or never!
God bless you all.

Chaplaincy Practice and Service Delivery

Chaplaincy Practice and Service Delivery
Chaplaincy practice and service delivery remains the only common grounds for all chaplains, both in the past and in the present.
Chaplaincy practice is the employment of wisdom endowed us by the Almighty God in the practical application of knowledge and skills acquired via learning, training, education and experience in addressing issues at hands with the views of proffering the needed solutions to them.
Martins of Tour, the legendary founder of chaplaincy and chaplaincy practice in meeting with the felt need of the beggar on the street on a winter day almost freezing to death in the following ways and manners:-
1.     He demonstrated or showcase the love of God in kindness to a human being like him, created by the same God.
2.     He practiced sharing, for he was not told he had another cape anywhere; yet he parted with a half of the cape he had, securing the life of both the beggar and his own life from winter cold or from freezing.
3.     He practiced the preservation of God given lives in every situation and matter what the situation presents.
4.     He rendered beneficial service to the beggar not just charity.
The Master Chaplain, also showcase chaplaincy practice and service delivery in the steady of the Good Samaritan He gave as an illustration (Luke 10:29-37):
1.     The Pharisee that passed by the wounded man without any consideration for him in his situation and pool of blood represents the law and authority which is insufficient to meet with the felt need of humanity.
2.     The Levite that passed by the wounded man without any consideration for him represent the religious bigots of the day and the insufficiency of religion to take adequate care of people who are not known members of this particular congregation.
3.     Presenting and showcasing the Good Samaritan, who was a multi-faith, interfaith personality, meeting with the felt needs of the wounded man by taking him to  a care-giver, providing and paying for his care and recovery with the promise of coming back to offset whatever was incurred after he had left.
This is beyond a charitable giving but a complete wholesome service delivery that affect the total man. What all chaplains are called unto is beneficial interfaith and multifaith service delivery in a pluralistic setting.
Let us all be alive to our duties and responsibilities; charitable giving cannot take the place of detailed practice and service delivery.
